Ting Yuan: What has inspired or shaped you as a Vice President?
Zi Qin: "Well, actually I started this way - I mean, I had this idea last year. Yes, at the beginning of last year, we had a bonding camp. I was a member of the committee team, and after the camp, we found out that the relationship between the members was very good. From then on, I wanted to be a member of the team, to contribute to the team and grow with them."
TY: What kind of working style do you bring to the club as a Vice President?
ZQ: "My working style... I would say that I'm not serious when compared to others. I sometimes like my silly jokes, and if you know how I communicate with others, it is very funny. But I think the most important thing is to be a good listener to be able to get everybody's point of view."
TY: What were some of the biggest obstacles you faced during your tenure?
ZQ: "I would say that it's not a big problem, but of course there are some minor problems. For example, the social media team would need to post weekly updates. But I would say that so far, the other committee members haven't had that much of a problem. My biggest challenge was when I was having my internship, I had to travel between work and school, especially when I was stuck in traffic... I would say that was the most challenging thing."
TY: What is the most important thing you have learned in the captain ball club and why is it important?
ZQ: "I think the most important thing is that you need to know is how to make a difference over the next few semesters because everything you do to contribute will impact the results. So you need to make the right decision. For example, if you want to buy a new ball for the team, you have to consider about the club's budget and how to maintain this state in the future semesters if we run low on club funds."
TY: What is one improvement you would want to see in captain ball club's future?
ZQ: "Well, I would say the club in general since the number of our members increases every semester. At first, when I joined the captain ball club, we had only 30-40 members, so it was easier to bond with each other. However, it depends on what direction you guys wish to take. For example, you want to bring a more relaxed vibe to the club and to the committee, it will result in how the club will be. Based on the experience of me joining your general meeting, it was good that you all started the meeting with an icebreaker. That will help when you share and make a decision, and to summarize after listening to everyone's opinions."
Tyen Wyeth: Describe your personal philosophy.
ZQ: "I wouldn't say I have a lot, but my philosophy has motivated me to take up the position as a Vice President. Besides that, I also like the feeling when your efforts are appreciated by someone or a group of people. For example, back then I was a committee for the bonding camp, the participants of the camp were really appreciative, so that was what motivated me to take on this role."
TY: Use three adjectives to describe yourself.
ZQ: "First would be colourful. By joining clubs, I've become more self-aware and learned how to interact with people, and I appreciate all the experiences, whether it's black or yellow. The second one would be patience. Not that I am not patient, of course. To me, this word is really important, because when we spend more time thinking, we may have different ideas. Lastly, it would be happiness, because you get to know more about yourself and your family during this MCO period."
TY: Use 3 words or adjectives to describe the future development of the captain ball club.
ZQ: "First, adventure. I can't wait for the club to explore more in competitions, meet more people. The second is charming. I wish to see the club members become more charming. The third is enthusiasm. This is because all the committee members are passionate, and I believe that it will have an impact on the club as a whole, to become more and more welcoming. In my opinion, joining a club won't teach you much until you become a part of the committee."
TY: Do you mind sharing some time-management tips with us?
ZQ: "For me, I will draw a schedule and paste it in front of my desk on a monthly basis that will remind me what to do daily, but I think the most important thing is to always remind myself why I chose to do something as there must be a purpose behind them. This will push and motivate me to follow the schedule."
